“The Walking Dead” spin-off is coming together nicely with the casting announcements of its central characters. Cliff Curtis, Frank Dillane and Alycia Debnam-Carey have been officially cast in the “The Walking Dead” companion series. Dillane and Debnam-Carey landed roles in the pilot for the spin-off, also known as “Cobalt”.

Deadline had to following to say about Dillane and Debnam-Carey upcoming roles:

“The untitled Walking Dead spinoff, aka Cobalt, takes place during the same zombie apocalypse depicted on The Walking Dead but in a different location. It revolves around a male divorced teacher and a female guidance counselor. WME-repped Dillane (Harry Potter And The Half-Blood Prince) plays the woman’s son, who has battled a drug problem. Aussie Debnam Carey, repped by UTA, Management 360 and Lisa Mann Creative Management, plays the woman’s ambitious daughter.”

“Gang Related” star Cliff Curtis has been cast as the male lead in the pilot. Deadline describes him as “a divorced teacher, a good man who tries to do right by everyone in his life, and a female guidance counselor.” Additional reports suggest that Curtis would play Sean Cabrera, a single father (as described by Deadline) surviving the apocalypse with his “whip-smart and rebellious” teenage son.

The spin-off series is still on the lookout for a female lead to portray guidance counselor Nancy Tompkins aka “a thirtysomething single mom to two kids” who “looks like the girl next door, but there’s an edge to her.” She reportedly works at the school with Sean Cabrera.

The untitled Walking Dead spinoff, takes place during the same zombie apocalypse depicted on “The Walking Dead” but in a different location. Tentatively titled “Cobalt”, “The Walking Dead” companion series is set to be released somewhere in 2015.
