Channing Tatum has been expressing a need to play Marvel’s “Gambit” since last year September. We’ve seen reports about “X-Men “producer Lauren Shuler-Donner also chiming in at one stage saying that Tatum would be perfect for the part, but it was a matter of pitching the idea with the execs. After months of rumors and speculation, it was confirmed by Shuler-Donner herself that Tatum will indeed play Gambit in an upcoming X-Men film.

We finally have a confirmation from Deadline that Gambit will be getting his own movie as well, here is what they had to say:

“In a move that makes official that the X-Men character Gambit is getting his own spinoff movie with Channing Tatum as the card-savvy protagonist, Fox has set Robocop scribe Josh Zetumer to write the screenplay. The studio has officially attached Tatum as star, and to produce with his Free Association partner Reid Carolin, The Donners Company’s Lauren Shuler Donner, and Genre Films’ Simon Kinberg. “

‘Gambit’ Solo Movie Confirmed With Channing Tatum Attached

Well there you have it geeks, Tatum is officially onboard to portray Gambit in a solo movie. For now, the plot is still under wraps and no release date has been set.

The actor once said:

“I would like to play Gambit. Gambit’s my favorite. I’m from New Orleans, around that area. My dad’s from New Orleans, and I like to do a Cajun accent. I could do it for real. No knock on Taylor Kitsch, though, ’cause I actually like his Gambit, but I’ve always lived around Cajun people. […] Gambit was always like the woman-loving, cigarette-smoking, drinking [guy]. He was the punk rock of all the superheroes. He’s a thief. He kind of rode the line.”

Needless to say, many comic book fanboys are still in a state of disbelief that Tatum was first in line for the role, never mind the final pick. Any geeks out there excited to see Tatum suit up as the Louisiana thief?
