Anyone can imagine our disappointment when the reboot announcement for “Underworld” included a no-show from Kate Beckinsale for the foreseeable future. New reports claim that our favorite vampire vixen may return for the reboot. Len Wiseman who directed the first two installments (married to Beckinsale), sat with IGN at the 2014 New York Comic-Con this past weekend and discussed the future of the franchise. Cinematic universes are the new trend in Hollywood, and for some reason my Spidey senses are tingling with Wiseman’s responses to the future of Selene and the introduction of ‘Divergent‘ Star Theo James. Obviously nothing is set in stone, but if I’m allowed to read between the lines, bigger things are set to come down the line for the reboot than initially revealed.

Wiseman says we might also be in line to see the monsters take the fight to the small screen, but he was unable to confirm which of the projects will be receiving screen time first. With Selene’s future in the franchise all but confirmed with Wiseman saying “another film is being developed with Kate possibly as well,” fans of the horror series have much to be excited about.

Initially thought to be a reboot of the horror franchise, ‘Underworld 5’ is actually an expansion of the existing universe instead of a retake. Cory Goodman has been tapped to write the script, while Tom Rosenberg and Gary Lucchesi are set to produce for Lakeshore Entertainment. The storyline is still under wraps, but rumors some time ago claimed that “Underworld: Next Generation” was in the works with Wiseman serving as producer. Additional reports also suggested that the storyline would center on Eve, the hybrid daughter of Beckinsale’s Selene (vampire) and Scott Speedman’s Michael (vampire werewolf hybrid).
