Post-apocalyptic iPhone zombie game “The Drowning” will be heading to the big screen. The mobile game published in 2013 by Tokyo-based publisher DeNA has been picked up by Radar Pictures. “Olympus Has Fallen” and “The Expendables 3” writer duo Creighton Rothenberger and Katrin Benedikt has officially been hired to adapt the video game, with Ted Field, Mike Weber, and Michael Napoliello tapped to produce. The first-person shooter game adaptation will be led by executive producers Tom Van Dell and Jason Moskowitz. No director has been hired yet.

Deadline had the following to say:

“The best-selling game is being envisioned for the big screen as an ecological horror tale about a deep-sea oil-drilling accident that causes ancient micro-organisms to be released into the water supply of an island town off the Seattle coast.”
