It’s been over 2 months since series creator Nic Pizzolatto mentioned that casting announcements should be made soon for his hotly anticipated second season of “True Detective”. Many names have made the list for the coveted roles, but nothing was set in stone, until now! HBO has broken the ice with the unveiling of two frontrunners, and additional cast members will be announced as it is confirmed.
Colin Farrell and Vince Vaughn will star in the second season of Pizzolatto’s anthology crime drama series.
Check out the character descriptions:
Colin Farrell as Ray Velcoro:
“A compromised detective whose allegiances are torn between his masters in a corrupt police department and the mobster who owns him.”
Vince Vaughn as Frank Semyon:
“A career criminal in danger of losing his empire when his move into legitimate enterprise is upended by the murder of a business partner.”
Check out the official logline for the upcoming season:
“Three police officers and a career criminal must navigate a web of conspiracy in the aftermath of a murder.”
A total of nine actresses are still in the running for the coveted female roles. Jessica Biel, Rosario Dawson, Malin Akerman, Jaimie Alexander, Kelly Reilly, Brit Marling, Oona Chaplin, Elisabeth Moss and Rachel McAdams are hotly tipped for the upcoming season. Taylor Kitsch is also attached to take on a role in the HBO crime drama.
HBO confirmed the second season will be eight episodes, and “Fast and the Furious” helmer Justin Lin will direct the first two episodes of the new season. Pizzolatto revealed previously that the season will revolve around “hard women, bad men and the secret occult history of the United States transportation system.” The story is set to take place in California, but not in Los Angeles.
