Moviepilot is running with a very hot rumour that Robert Downey Jr. is eyed to join the “Assassin’s Creed” cast. The report suggests that the Iron Man depicter is tapped to portray Leonardo da Vinci in the much talked about movie. Da Vinci will supposedly cross paths with Desmond Miles (the infamous assassin) who is sent back in time to retrieve historical artefacts. Moviepilot did however remove the report, but IGN is also running with an article suggesting that the rumors might be true.

Has Robert Downey Jr. Joined the ‘Assassin’s Creed’ Cast?

This is what they had to say:

“Robert Downey Jr. has reportedly signed on to join the Assassin’s Creed movie cast in the role of Leonardo da Vinci.” “The rumour, originally reported by Moviepilot but since removed, suggests that the upcoming film could be set around the events of Assassin’s Creed IIor its tie-ins, where the famous inventor appeared opposite Ezio Auditore.”“Since the story has been taken down, there’s no way to verify whether or not the rumour is true. Given Downey’s penchant for bringing a comedic twist to his roles however, you could see how he’d do well as Assassin’s Creed’s imagining of da Vinci.”

Stuck in development hell for several years, the adaptation of Ubisoft’s popular video game series is finally slated to be released on August 7, 2015. The last time we checked in with casting news, Michael Fassbender was eyed to take on the lead role.
