Zombie apocalypse film “Maggie” starring Arnold Schwarzenegger will be heading to theatres courtesy of Lionsgate. The studio announced on Tuesday, August 26 that it has acquired the North America distribution rights with a release date set somewhere in the first quarter of 2015. Video games and “The Walking Dead” title sequence creator Henry Hobson directed the post-apocalyptic film.

Schwarzenegger stars in the zombie apocalypse film as a father on a journey to help his daughter, who is slowly “turning”, and trying to come to terms with her infection. Chloe Moretz was initially earmarked as the infected daughter, however her busy schedule did not allow her to take on the role. Abigail Breslin portrays the titular character, while Schwarzenegger plays a Midwestern farmer.

Schwarzenegger also produced the film, with Bill Johnson, Ara Keshishian, Colin Bates, Joey Tufaro, Pierre-Ange Le Pogam and Matthew Baer.

This heart-wrenching twist on the zombie apocalypse puts a human face on an inexplicable horror.
