Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is teasing fans again with his upcoming DC movie role. The internet was buzzing with excitement when the former pro wrestler dropped hints about his involvement in one of DC’s movies. Back in January, we reported that The Rock teased fans during a Q&A session via Twitter on New Year’s Eve. Johnson met with Warner Bros’ CEO to discuss the unnamed project at the time, with possible roles being that of Green Lantern, Shazam, Lobo or Black Adam. The buff actor revealed in an interview last month that he’ll be playing a DC character for certain.

The Rock finally confirms that he is indeed involved in the upcoming movie adaptation of DC Comics’ “Shazam!“, but still plays it coy when asked about his role in an interview with Spanish-language site La Nacion (via cinemablend.com)

He said:

“It’s the interpretation of a character from DC Comics. It’s the story of Shazam, but I can’t say if I’m playing Shazam or Black Adam…In this case in particular, I believe we will do [the part] justice. I’m putting my heart and soul into this role.”

He added:

“Now it is happening with Superman and Batman. Aquaman and Wonder Woman come. I’m excited and I know fans are also excited. DC and Warner Bros. have great mythology that we will respect, we will create something very cool and good foundation,”

Director Peter Segal has been involved in the long gestating project that was (is) rumored to be called ‘Billy Batson and the Legend of Shazam’. The concept of the film was pitched to Segal by producer-writer Toby Emmerich, but the timing was a problem due to multiple crossover movies planned for the franchise. Zack Snyders’ “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” is the next exciting DC comic book flick to headline in 2016, while “Shazam” is planned for 2017.

Johnson was previously linked to play DC’s interstellar mercenary and bounty hunter Lobo, and he was also attached to the previously canned “Shazam!” flick to portray Black Adam. The Green Lantern rumors were debunked by the actor himself, which still leaves us with only three options. Black Adam seems to be likely fit because the villainous character is Shazam’s arch enemy. So if we narrow it down even further, Johnson might stand in line to portray either Shazam or Black Adam. Nothing has been confirmed yet, GS will keep you posted!
