Nothing beats a good old fashioned bodyguard movie. Over the years hollywood’s given us plenty of movies where the focal point is in fact the bodyguard himself, and not the client, the celebrity or the person of value. Whether it is a child, a celebrity or the president, we love movies that focus on the life of the bodyguard. He is the man who would take a bullet for you, he would die for you. His discipline skills and usual charm and security he provides makes him a big favourite with the ladies, that and the fact that he can kick some serious ass! Bodyguard movies tend to go hand in hand with revenge movies, see our Top 10 Revenge Movies.

Take note there are plenty of movies where a bodyguard features in, like Kill Bill, Odd-job in James Bond and even Han Solo (he can be considered a bodyguard) but we focus primarily on movies about the bodyguard.

Top 6 Bodyguard Movies:

1. The Bodyguard (1992)

Bodyguard-kevin costner

Secret Service agent Frank Farmer (Kevin Costner) plays bodyguard to the pop singer (Whitney Houston), though he really is more used to protecting Presidents than spoiled superstars. Sparks fly, security is compromised, but when the stalker gets serious, safety and the job come first. The Bodyguard is a classic and for most of us the first bodyguard movie we will always think of when on the topic. Heck, even the name makes it easy. Plus we all end up singing Whitney houston songs in our head a week after watching it. “And Iiiiiiii-eeee-aaaaaaai will always love youuuuuuu-ooooo-uuuuuu!

2. In the Line of Fire (1993)

clint eastwood in the line of fire

Almost over-the-hill secret service agent Frank (another frank?) comes back for one last job to protect the president. Frank Horrigan (Clint Eastwood) couldn’t save Kennedy but did put himself ‘In the Line of Fire’ to take out a clever assassin who is a dangerous threat to his current President. We loved this movie.

3. Transporter 2 (2005)

transporter 2 jason

The Transported movies technically don’t qualify as b0dyguard movies seeing as Jason Statham (plays Frank, yet another Frank!!) is a driver. But seeing as he ends up protecting a 9 year old child in Transporter 2, it is the exception.  Transported 2 is more about flinging cars off tower blocks, climbing up moving jet planes and kicking a lot of people in the head. Rubbish at protecting in the first place but great at retrieving.

4. Man on Fire (2004)

man-on-fire

Washed up former CIA assassin John Creasy (Denzel Washington) isn’t thrilled with his new job as bodyguard to nine-year-old Pita (Dakota Fanning) in ‘Man on Fire’ (2004). But when the young girl is kidnapped, Creasy goes all out for revenge.

5. Terminator 2 (1991)

Arnold's T800 will also be older in "Terminator: Genesis"

Reinvented from killer to protector, Arnie’s finest hour saw him stretch his acting chops to play massive muscled emotionless robot with a heart. Putting his own body in the way of juggernauts, helicopters, 10 million rounds of ammunition and a shapeshifting super cyborg, gets him an ‘above expectations’ evaluation on his annual bodyguard resume.

6. Taken (2008)

taken2

He is the father-in-law from hell, and proves in Taken that he is not to be messed with. We’re huge fans of Liam Neeson here at Geekshizzle. We even think he is the greatest actor of our time (check here to see why we think so). Taken was a huge success on the box office, and this movie has the best story ever. Retired bodyguard Bryan Mills goes on a revenge mission to rescue his kidnapped daughter. Technically this movie isn’t a bodyguard movie, but it does get all the tick marks on our criteria. “Marco from Tripoli, I will find you, and I will kill you
