Last month, Avatar actress Sigourney Weaver teased fans saying that her character, Dr. Grace Augustine will be returning to the franchise. She died by the hand of Colonel Quaritch, who is also set to make a dramatic return to the franchise. She mentioned that she will be returning to all sequels but her “part is a little different in each one.”

Avatar helmer James Cameron confirmed her return in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter:

“Sigourney and I have a long creative history, dating back to 1985 when we made Aliens. We’re good friends who’ve always worked well together, so it just feels right that she’s coming back for the Avatar sequels,”

Not revealing anything, he mentioned Weaver’s new role:

“Her character of Grace Augustine, as fans know, died in the first movie, so she’s playing a different and in many ways more challenging character in the upcoming films. We’re both looking forward to this new creative challenge, the latest chapter in our long and continuing collaboration.”

Director James Cameron’s “Avatar” sequels will see the return of Sam Worthington and Zoe Saldana. The two stars will reprise their roles as Jake Sully and Princess Neytiri respectively. Avatar 2″ is set to be released in December 2016, “Avatar 3″ in December 2017, and “Avatar 4″ in 2018.
