‘Resident Evil’ helmer Paul W. S. Anderson shared some details of the upcoming sixth installment of the wildly popular video game based film series. The helmer discusses the next film during an appearance at this year’s Beijing International Film Festival.

He said:

“I have to go home tomorrow for ‘Rising Resident Evil’. That’s what I’m going to do. As you know, [Li] Bingbing is in the last movie and she will be there again… After ‘Resident Evil’ I want to come to China and shoot film again,”

Media sources are tentatively referring to the sixth instalment as “Resident Evil Rising” which seems more like a translation mix-up than anything else, we’ll check in once the title is confirmed. Bingbing Li is set to return as Ada Wong, with Milla Jovovich reprising her role as Alice. The 3D horror film based upon the Capcom video games of the same name is rumoured to hit theatres in September 2015.

Despite review aggregators Rotten Tomatoes and Metacritic dishing out unfavorable reviews, the franchise has been a goldmine raking in US$915 million worldwide on a reported budget of $248 million. The Capcom game based movie franchise has a huge cult following with a loyal fan base prepared to sit through another installment. This secures the “Resident Evil” franchise as the most successful film series to be based on video games. The series also holds the record for the most live-action film adaptations of a videogame. Did I mention Milla Jovovich, perhaps the most obvious reason to follow the film series?!
