It is official, The Goonies will get a sequel, and hopefully all the previous cast members will return! It is the sequel that every guy born in the 80’s or early 90’s are waiting for. For those of you that aren’t familiar with the movie, here’s a quick intro:
The Goonies was a 1985 American adventure–comedy film directed by Richard Donner. The screenplay was written by Chris Columbus from a story by executive producer Steven Spielberg. The film’s premise features a band of pre-teens who live in the “Goon Docks” neighborhood of Astoria, Oregon attempting to save their homes from demolition, and in doing so, discover an old Spanish map that leads them on an adventure to unearth the long-lost fortune of One-Eyed Willie, a legendary 17th-century pirate.
Luckily it is planned as a sequel, and not a remake. We’ve been waiting for this a long time. The news came directly from the The Goonies director Richard Donner confirming the sequel:
It’s been long rumored that there would be a second Goonies movie, but Donner said this weekend in a video interview with TMZ that it’s finally happening. “We are doing a sequel,” he said.
The Goonies Sequel is Happening:
Way back in 2010, actor Josh Brolin told Extra TV a script was believed to be in the works, but that there were no plans of getting it produced any-time soon.
