“Guardians of the Galaxy” is one of Marvel’s riskier projects, considering the vast selection of popular characters to choose from, the studio still insisted on launching a big budget comic book flick based on the “Guardians”. Chris Pratt is among the big names announced to take on one of the main characters and bring to life a fairly unknown group of unsung heroes. The “Parks and Recreation” star revealed in early “Guardians of the Galaxy” press notes (via comicbookmovie.com) how Peter Quill and Yondu teamed up to take on the galaxy. Many geeks have already seen the first “Guardians of the Galaxy” trailer and fans responded with praise and excitement. There are even rumors of a sequel in the works (via indiewire.com) even thought the first installment have not been released yet!

Chris Pratt (Star-Lord) and Michael Rooker (Yondu)

Pratt will take on the role as self-proclaimed Star-Lord, and Michael Rooker is set to play Yondu in this film, here is what Pratt had to say about their backstory:

“He’s very much a kid at heart. He’s never known his father. He’s sucked away into space just as his mother dies and is raised by a blue-skinned humanoid. He has spent all his life being told to toughen up and has a false sense of bravado as a result. But deep down he is lonely, and while he’s a guy traveling in space getting to do whatever he wants, he misses his family, his community, and through the course of the story, he learns to care again and that there’s more to life than just taking and doing exactly what you want.”

Rooker also chimed in about his character:

“It’s a beautiful story, a great uplifting story and I found the relationship between Quill and Yondu intriguing. He went to pick him up from Earth and for some reason he decided not to take him where he was meant to go and raised him himself. He made a connection with him, and Yondu now enjoys the fact that Quill has the courage to do his own thing.”

Pratt and Rooker is supported by Benicio del Toro who reprises his role as The Collector, Vin Diesel lends his voice to Groot, Bradley Cooper voices Rocket Raccoon, Zoe Saldana portrays Gamora, Dave Bautista plays Drax the Destroyer, Lee Pace portrays Ronan the Accuser, Karen Gillan takes on the the roles Nebula and Djimon Hounsou stars as Korath.

The James Gunn directed Marvel flick is set to be released on August 1.
