It was there, and now it is gone. We saw versions of the awesome The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug Collector’s Limited Edition Gift Set  make its way onto the web, and now they have all been removed. We can only assume that it leaked somehow and was requested that it be removed.

We were rather surprised at the date at which the box set was announced, if it was real. Usually the collectors edition box sets for The Hobbit is announced in November, 1 month before the next movie. The limited edition box set does look pretty spectacular, if this is what we can expect. Here’s the details:

The box set includes two awesome Gates of Erebor Guards premium bookends exclusively created by The Noble Collection (not available to purchase elsewhere), with the 3D Blu-ray Combo Pack with Depth Lenticular Packaging. The price listed was $99, with a release date of April the 8th.

the details of the box set has confused Hobbit fans, and the opinion is that this is not the gift box set that will be attached to the November release of The Hobbit:Desolation of Smaug with the Extended Edition. The extended edition will most probably be created by WETA and will have a figurine of Smaug. Maybe this was designed before the change was made from two films to three?

Fact remains that you cannot purchase this right now, good luck in finding it. We will have to wait until November to get an idea of what the real box set will look like.
