Some of our readers might recall an article we posted a while ago that Spider-Man will face-off against more that one villain in Marc Webb’s movie. The Daily Bugle, a fictional New York City newspaper in the Marvel Universe run by Sony Pictures posted a news story on its Tumblr page about Spider-Slayers and The Vulture. The story mentions Spencer Smythe, a scientist known for creating the robotic Slayers and hints at the development of a certain utility associated with the Vulture. Webb confirmed that B.J. Novak will take on the role as Alistair Smythe!

B.J. Novak is best known for playing Smithson Utivich aka "The Little One" in "Inglourious Basterds"

The director made the announcement on Twitter, he wrote:

“Almost shot ASM2 in B+W til @bjnovak’s (A. Smythe) promo for his excellent book ONE MORE THING beat me to it,”

It is unclear where Alistair Smythe will fit in to the storyline and if we will see the infamous Spider-Slayers.

Some of you may ask, who is Alistair Smythe?

Don’t fear if you are not in the know, it’s our pleasure to dig out some info for your reading pleasure.

Character description:

Alistair Smythe is the son of Spencer Smythe, who is described as a mad scientist responsible for the creation of Spider-Slayers. His father died because of his prolonged exposure to radioactive chemicals while creating the robots designed to destroy Spider-Man. Alistair inherited his father’s legacy and continued his work in an attempt to destroy Spider-Man. He was also in an asylum but he released himself and took several other inmates with him in order to construct a new series of spider-slayers. He used to work for kingpin but broke ties with him to focus on his plans to kill Spider-Man. Alistair was unable to walk and confided to a wheelchair, but later gained the ability to walk after transforming himself into what he called the “Ultimate Spider-Slayer”. Alistair enhanced himself by encasing his entire body in a bi-organic carapace that not only served as a full body armor, but increased his strength and gave him the ability to walk again by interconnecting with his spine.
