Top horror producer Jason Blum (“Insidious”, “The Purge”, “The Conjuring”) is attached to the reboot of the haunted house movie franchise inspired by the terrifying true events that took place in Amityville. Ten Amityville horror films have been made since the 70’s to date. The first installment, 1979’s “The Amityville Horror”, is the most well known in the series followed by the remake of the same name released in 2005. It really seems like a pointless exercise to spawn another one doesn’t it? Blum is one of the reasons why it might be a good idea to have a fresh take on the horrific things that took place in Amityville. “Insidious”, “The Purge” and “The Conjuring” are simple but excellent horror films which really capture the essence of scary movies in a way that can only be described as captivating and frightening.

“This latest version of the franchise, which comes after many sequels and Platinum Dunes’ own take on the legend with 2005’s The Amityville Horror, follows an ambitious female television news intern, on the verge of breaking the most famous haunted house case in the world, who leads a team of journalists, clergymen and paranormal researchers into an investigation of the bizarre events that will come to be known as The Amityville Horror, only to unwittingly open a door to the unreal that she may never be able to close.”

The new movie titled “Amityville”, will be written and directed by Casey La Scala and Daniel Farrands. The remake will show the events after the original “Amityville Horror” book and movie through found footage dating back to 1976.

“Amityville” is set to be released on January 2, 2015.
