We have known for some time now that CBS’ “How I Met Your Mother” will sadly come to an end.  The network channel announced on Thursday, December 19 that the long running sitcom will be bowing out with a special one-hour final episode on March 31, 2014. “HIMYM” regular James Van Der Beek will get an opportunity to launch a preview episode for his new show,  “Friends with Better Lives”, about six friends at very different stages in their lives.

The gang will be together for the last time on March 31, 2014.

As cited by Cinemablend, creator/executive producer Craig Thomas says that the 200th episode airing on January 27 will tell the story from the Mother’s perspective. Executive producer Carter Bays says:

“Our 100th episode was very much a celebration of the cast – not the cast doesn’t deserve celebrating even more after 200 episodes – but this is a different kind of story. It’s about the tale. It felt like a different kind of 200th episode, but it felt like the right one to do in terms of the greater story of the show.”

CBS has given a pilot commitment order to continue with the “HIMYM”  Spin-Off  that will be telling the story from a female point of view, the series will be called  ’How I Met Your Dad’. We can expect a new voice, new characters and a brand new storyline. The successful “HIMYM” creative team (Carter Bays and Craig Thomas) alongside Up All Night” creator Emily Spivey will pen the pilot.
