It has been months since we have received any news regarding the upcoming movie “Rocketman”, which has been described as a biographical musical fantasy about Sir Elton John. Collider.com reports that Tom Hardy has finalized negations and has signed on to play Sir Elton John.

Focus Features CEO Peter Schlessel says:

“Tom is quickly becoming known as one of the world’s most versatile actors, and like others at the top of their craft, he has proven his ability to transform himself completely into the character or subject found in the material,”

“We are confident that Tom will embody the physicality and spirit of Sir Elton.”

Sir Elton John will serve as the executive producer along with co-producer David Furnish, Elton’s longtime partner. Elton is set to re-record a number of his biggest hits “to match the emotional moments in the film”. Michael Gracey (responsible for the upcoming film “’The Greatest Showman on Earth’ starring Hugh Jackman) will serve behind the lens with a script by Oscar nominee Lee Hall (“Billy Elliot”). The “Bennie and the Jets” singer previously revealed that Justin Timberlake was the preferred actor to take on the role, but the “suit and tie” R&B star did not finalize any deals with Rocket Pictures.

Filming is scheduled to begin in the fall of 2014.
