False reports are spreading like wildfire suggesting that the Canadian superstar Celine Dion has died in a plane crash. David Emery from About.com reports that the story was fueled by a rogue app on Facebook that requests access to members’ profile information and permission to post on their behalf. Unlucky Facebookers who managed to fall for the clever scam and granted access for the app to send reposts of the false article can remove the app by following these instructions. The hoax news story originated on a prank website several years ago and once again had the internet in a frenzy. Dion fans will be relieved to know that the multi Grammy Award winning artist is alive and well.
