Martin Freeman has signed up to co-lead FX’s limited series “Fargo”. Freeman will play Lester Nygaard who was portrayed by William H. Macy in the 1996 movie of the same name. The TV adaptation of the critically-acclaimed crime film will see Lester as a small-town insurance salesman married to a not so appreciative wife.

Lester’s life is turned upside down when he meets Lorne Malvo, a rootless and manipulative character.  Hollywoodreporter.com claims that Billy Bob Thornton will depict Lorne Malvo. The drama series is set for 10-episodes, featuring an all-new “true crime” story. The small screen adaptation will follow a new case and new characters, however audiences can expect the trademark humor and “Minnesota nice” flavor that secured the success of the 1996 movie…not to mention murder!

The film earned seven Academy Award nominations, winning two for Best Original Screenplay for the Coens and Best Actress in a Leading Role for McDormand.

Production is scheduled to begin in October in Canada, with an anticipated release date set for 2014.
