The first trailer for the Sal Mineo biopic, directed by James Franco has been released as cited by Movies.msn.com. The drama  titled “Sal”, about late actor Sal Mineo premiered at the Venice Film Festival two years ago and will be due for limited release on November 1. The film is making its way to theaters thanks to Tribeca Films.

Mineo was a well known teen idol in the 1950s and got an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actor through his roles in “Rebel Without a Cause” and “Exodus”. The Italian actor was famously known for playing James Dean’s mentally-unstable sidekick in the 1955 classic “Rebel Without a Cause,” was tragically stabbed to death in the alley behind his West Hollywood apartment in 1976, at the age of 37. The trailer gives glimpses at the final day in the life of Mineo as he was trying to revive his career before being murdered.

Starring Val Lauren, the film is supported by Vince Jolivette, Jim Parrack, Trevor Neuhoff, Stacey Miller and Raymond T. Williams.
