Dream Theater
Progressive Rock torch bearers Dream Theater’s new self titled album is streaming on-line on Soundcloud. This self-titled LP, produced by guitarist John Petrucci, is their first to involve new drummer Mike Magnini in the creative process from the beginning. The album features a disparate blend of styles, from the doomy instrumental “Enigma Machine” to the symphonic-metal intro “False Awakening Suite” to the epic “Behind the Veil,” which morphs from moody atmospherics to a sing-along arena-rock chorus.
We’re big fans of the guys and have always compared them to a modern day rock opera. The time, effort, perfection and progression of every song is reminiscent to a play that has a slow build and massive climax, intermission and a massive swoop back to the original melody and chorus. The question remains how the guys will do without drumming legend Mike Portnoy that left the band after his short hiatus with Avenged Sevenfold.
The new Dream Theater album will be released on September 24th on Roadrunner Records. In the meantime, check out an exclusive stream of the full LP.
