Samsung released their Galaxy Gear SmartWatch Yesterday at a ‘Unpacked’ media event. The rumoured screenshots that leaked a few days earlier contains similarities but are way off in final design. Perhaps this was an earlier version? The Galaxy Gear SmartWatch looks pretty cool. One of the main concerns we have regarding SmartWatches is that they are too big, too bulky, and the operating system that is not nearly up to scratch yet. At least the Galaxy Gear looks like a watch, not bulky at all.
You wear the device on your wrist,it can receive calls, send text messages, pick up notifications, control music playback, take photos, shoot 720p videos and record sound. The Galaxy Gear has a 1.9-megapixel camera, 1.63-inch touchscreen, a speaker and two microphones. It comes with multiple clock-faces and over 70 pre-loaded apps, but there’s loads more to download to help keep fit or do whatever else you want it to. The SmartWatch is meant to be worn as a companion device to your SmartPhone, which may seem as a disadvantage to some, but as we’ve come to expect the whole point of a SmartWatch is that it interacts with your SmartPhone.
Below is a hands-on video courtesy of TheVerge:
Apart from what we can see in the video, we’ve yet to see how exactly the operating system looks and operates. Until we get more details, we still suggest you save your money until you buy a SmartWatch. Apple will be looking at the Galaxy Gear just as intently, seeing as they are also planning to enter the SmartWatch battle soon. The Apple vs Samsung war is hotter and healthier than ever!
