Director Ridley Scott’s Moses epic Exodus has turned up the heat with the exciting news that Christian Bale has signed on to play the Biblical character, Moses. “The Great Gatsby” star Joel Edgerton is in talks to play the Egyptian ruler Ramses, cited by Hollywoodreporter.com.
In the Book of Exodus, Moses was born as a Hebrew at a time when the Pharaoh had commanded that male Hebrew children be drowned. The infant Moses was set adrift on the Nile in a basket, rescued by the Pharaoh’s daughter and raised in the royal family as a brother to the future Pharoah. According to the Biblical story, the adult Moses was commanded by God to go to Egypt and deliver the Hebrews from bondage.
Steven Zaillian (Schindler’s List, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo) scribe is onboard with a rewrite of Adam Cooper and Bill Collage script. Scott is producing the pic alongside Zaillian and Peter Chernin for 20th Century Fox. Production is set to start in September in Spain, Morocco, and England with an anticipated released date on December 12, 2014.
Bale can be seen next in director David O. Russell’s 1980s-set American Hustle, which opens in limited release on December 13th before going wide on Christmas Day.
