This is of course straight from the rumour mill. According to Latino-Review whose “source” informed them that Leonardo did indeed turn down his possible role in the upcoming Star Wars Episode VII, in order to focus on Robotech! Robotech baby!

We’re really excited about this movie, we watched the series way back in the 80’s, we had the figurines, we were fans! Robotech together with Transformers was one of the defining shows during the 80’s that gave birth to the Sci-Fi Geekdom indide us!
Based on the sprawling sci-fi epic, “Robotech” takes place at a time when Earth has developed giant robots from the technology on an alien spacecraft that crashed on a South Pacific isle. Mankind is forced to use the technology to fend off three successive waves of alien invasions. The first invasion concerns a battle with a race of giant warriors who seek to retrieve their flagship’s energy source known as “protoculture,” and the planet’s survival ends up in the hands of two young pilots.

With movies such as Pacific Rim finally being possible to make thanks to Today’s CGI technologies, we have no doubt that Robotech will be a visual pleasure dome for all Geeks and especially the old school fans that remember the original series.
