Going into the next two-day break we have a quick look-back at the biggest movies to hit theatres during last weekend. ‘Terminator Genisys’ and ‘Magic Mike XXL’ had a very difficult time to take on the existing top seat contenders, ‘Jurassic World’ and Disney-Pixar’s ‘Inside Out’. The dinosaur centric movie added $29.2 million, but was forced to make way for a new champ despite the excellent take during its fourth week at the box office. “Inside Out” beat “Jurassic World” with $29.8 million in its third weekend, garnering a domestic total of $246.1 million.
“Terminator Genisys” failed dismally by only taking $44.2 million over five days placing third on the chart. The number crunchers predict that the film directed by Alan Taylor should receive a good bump when the film opens next week in Germany, Italy, and Spain. Review aggregator Rottentomatoes.com sunk the futuristic robot movie within two days since its lease by only dishing a rotten score of 27%.
The consensus reads:
“Mired in its muddled mythology, Terminator: Genisys is a lurching retread that lacks the thematic depth, conceptual intelligence, or visual thrills that launched this once-mighty franchise.”
Women gave the sexy “Magic Mike XXL” performance a miss as it ended up in fourth place for the weekend with $12.9 million. The movie ended its first five days with just $27.1 million, less than the $39 million three-day opening of the original “Magic Mike”. Rounding out the top five was Seth MacFarlane’s R-rated comedy “Ted 2” with $11.2 million.
