It doesn’t really come as a huge surprise to see James Wan’s hotly anticipated “Furious 7” smashing records and the box office. Universal’s “Fast and Furious” franchise which features the late Paul Walker made for a huge crowd puller in the latest installment. We get to see the popular actor in his final performance as Brian O’Conner, and sadly fans get to say goodbye to one of the biggest stars featured in the fast car movie franchise. “Furious 7” ruled the weekend box office charts with an impressive $143.6 million debut in the United States and $384 million worldwide.

‘Furious 7’ Completely Smashed Box Office Records This Past Weekend
Vice president and analyst over at BoxOffice.com Phil Contrino says:
“This is a bittersweet installment in the franchise,” “[Walker’s] passing made this movie more intriguing for people who hadn’t seen some of the installments. It raised awareness and its success is a tribute to him.”
The number crunchers predict that “Furious 7” has a very good chance of becoming the first billion-dollar movie for Universal, Contrino elaborates:
“This is the next member of the billion-dollar club, and that’s a rarefied place to be. This thing is on fire.”
Meanwhile in related box office news, DreamWorks’ Animated movie “Home (2015)” slips down one spot to second by adding a respectable $27,4 million in its second week at the box office. R-rated comedy “Get Hard” featuring Kevin Hart and Will Ferrell also slips down one spot with $12.9 million, followed by Disney’s “Cinderella” with $10.3 million. The top 5 is rounded out with “The Divergent Series: Insurgent” by raking in $10 million in its third week at the box office.
