The big weekend opening for Tom Cruise’s “Edge of Tomorrow” was spoiled by Shailene Woodley and Ansel Elgort “Fault in Our Stars”. The romantic comedy-drama film is based on the novel of the same name by John Green, the fifth novel by the author published in January 2012. The story follows a sixteen-year-old cancer patient who is forced by her parents to attend a support group, where she subsequently meets a boy and falls in love.

The Josh Boone directed pic is at the top of the box office chart with $48.2 million. Angelina Jolie’s Maleficent slips to second place this week, adding another $33,5 million. “Edge of Tomorrow” only managed to take third place on the podium with its $29,1 million opening. Made on a reported budget of $178 million, the futuristic film about waging war against an alien race raked in a total worldwide cume of $140,1 million.
The top 5 is rounded up with Marvel’s “X-Men: Days of Future Past” with an estimated $14.7 million, while “A Million Ways to Die in the West” is in fifth position this week with an estimated $7.1 million. The Garteh Edwards Directed Godzilla, Zac Efron & Seth Rogen’s Neighbors and Adam Sandler & Drew Barrymore’s Blended is still holding on in the top 10.
