If a person was able to buy stock in a Movie Director, then J.J.Abrams is a sure bet. He’s been moving up and up and up, and even before the latest Star Wars Episode VII he’s already known as the best Geek/Sci-Fi director around. He is definitely known for keeping his work in the depths of mystery, so what can we expect next from him? Before we look into his latest endeavours we are already drooling over, lets go back and reminisce over these awesome things he’s given us. It is always a good thing to be thankful right?

What we can expect right now?
If you’ve been living under a rock, then take note that arguable the biggest movie of the year is going to be the next Star Trek film. Release date May 17!
Star Trek Into Darkness:
After being called back home, the crew of the USS Enterprise find a seemingly unstoppable force which has attacked Starfleet and left Earth in chaos. Captain James T. Kirk and the crew of the Enterprise are tasked with leading the deadly manhunt to capture the party responsible and settle an old score.
Iron Man
We also know that Abrams provided some guidance with the third Iron Man movie. Downey: “Then I think we reached out to J.J. Abrams at one point when we were really confused in Act III, and he helped us, too”
What to expect later?
One film we definitely know that J.J.Abrams will do is the uber fandom film Star Wars: Episode VII. Details regarding the plot and storyline is slowly but surely making it’s way to the interwebs, but much is only speculation right now:
Rumours:
– Episode VII would begin roughly 20 (or perhaps 30 or 40) years after the end of Return of the Jedi (according to Lucas in 1980 and 1982)
– R2-D2 and C-3PO would be the only characters who might continue through all nine films (Lucas in 1980, 1981 and 1983).
– The trilogy would deal with the rebuilding of the Republic (Lucas in 1980))
– “It’s like a saga, the story of a group of people, a family” (Lucas in 1980)
– The focus would be on Luke Skywalker’s journey to becoming the premier Jedi knight, with Luke’s sister (who was not Leia) appearing in Episode VIII, and the first appearance of the Emperor, and Luke’s ultimate confrontation with him, in Episode IX (a storyline as planned pre-1980, according to A New Hope and The Empire Strikes Back producer Gary Kurtz).
– Luke would have a romantic relationship with a female love interest (Lucas in 1988)
– The main theme of the trilogy would be moral and philosophical problems, such as the necessity for moral choices and the wisdom needed to distinguish right from wrong, justice, confrontation, and passing on what you have learned (Lucas in 1983 and 1989).
– The key actors, Mark Hamill as Luke Skywalker, Harrison Ford as Han Solo, and Carrie Fisher as Princess Leia, would appear, in their 60s or 70s (Lucas in 1983).
– In Episode IX, Hamill would cameo, “like Obi-Wan handing the lightsaber down to the next new hope” (according to Hamill, in 2004).
What Else is J.J. Abrams up to?
Finally, the part that we’re all wondering about, what will be next? Apart from more Star Wars and Star Trek movies, what else will J.J Abrams get himself involved with?
Portal
With Abrams teaming up with Gaming company ‘Valve’, it is expected that the popular game Portal will get the silver screen treatment.
Half-Life
“J.J made this announcement during the DICE summit in Las Vegas. There’s an idea we have for a game that we’d like to work with Valve on,” said Abrams, with Newell countering with “We’re going to figure out if we can make a ‘Portal’ movie or ‘Half-Life’ movie together.”
Cloverfield 2
Apparently the creative team has fleshed out an entire back-story which, if we’re lucky, we might get to explore in the sequel. Abrams made it clear though that he does not want to rush into the development of the sequel right away because of the first film’s success, instead he wants to create a sequel that is true to the previous film.
Zanbato
‘Fringe’ writers Monica Breen and Alison Schapker are reworking the script for ‘Zanbato’, a new mystery project from J.J. Abrams that reportedly mixes Japanese history with robots.
Mission: Impossible 5
Abrams will produce the fifth Mission Impossible movie, personally I think they need to bring in some new blood. Or IS tom Cruise Mission Impossible?
