Great news for The Simpsons fans. FX Networks CEO John Landgraf announced that the group is creating a standalone app for the popular Springfield family, which will allow users to stream all 24 seasons of the TV show to their devices.
This sounds too good to be true, but before we get to the catch, this is what Landgraf had to say at the Television Critics Association winter press tour yesterday [via 9to5Mac]:
“The Simpsons content will be curated in a separate app, which Landgraf said will be “integrated with and linked through” the FXNOW app. The Simpsons app will contain a multitude of Simpsons clips as well as full episodes (all 530 episodes will be available at all times, not cycled through at various intervals), all of which will “be infinitely cross-referenced and sortable and searchable in various different ways,” Landgraf said.”
Here’s the catch: The content will only be available to customers with a subscription to a cable provider that’s associated with FXNOW. These currently include AT&T, U-verse, Cablevision, and Comcast. Additional agreements will be made this year to expand the availability to more cable networks.
Still this is a pretty good deal if you do qualify. Being able to stream all 24 seasons of The Simpsons will come in handy in the cold winter months when there’s nothing else to watch. The Simpsons app is expected to launch in August of this year, and it sounds like it’s going to be US-only for at least a while.
