Showtime has officially grabbed the attention of all horror geeks with the debut of the first full trailer for its horror series “Penny Dreadful”. The series boast with an impressive lineup which include Eva Green, Josh Hartnett and Timothy Dalton. The horror series comes from three-time Oscar nominee John Logan (Hugo, Skyfall, Gladiator), who wrote the pilot and executive produces alongside Academy Award winner Sam Mendes and Neal Street’s Pippa Harris (Revolutionary Road).

Synopsis (via collider.com):

“In Penny Dreadful, some of literature’s most famously terrifying characters – including Dr. Frankenstein, Dorian Gray and iconic figures from the novel Dracula, all brilliantly reimagined in a whole new light – have become embroiled in Victorian London.”

The trailer is visually stunning and set to a very dark backdrop. The cinematography creates an atmosphere fitting to haunt your dreams, while showing creepy creatures from Gothic literature as we are pulled into “a half-world between what we know and what we fear.”  The series “features a roster of classic monsters, including Frankenstein, Dorian Gray and Dracula and weave together the classic origin stories while exploring tones that the country is grappling with.”
