It is nearly time for BAFTA 2014 (British Academy Film Awards) with the nominees already announced on Wednesday, January 8. Alfonso Cuaron’s “Gravity” is on the lips of most critics these days and it shouldn’t come as a surprise to see the Sandra Bullock starring film leading with 11 nominations. The space movie is followed by Steve McQueen’s “12 Years a Slave” and David O Russell’s “American Hustle” with 10 each and Paul Greengrass’”Captain Phillips” with 9.
The four aforementioned films will battle it out in the Best Film category joined by Stephen Frears’ “Philomena”and Best Director category joined by Martin Scorsese’s “The Wolf of Wall Street”.
Bullock is facing stiff completion to take the crown as the best actress. The leading ladies she will compete with are: Amy Adams for “American Hustle”, Cate Blanchett for “Blue Jasmine”, Emma Thompson for “Saving Mr Banks” and Dame Judi Dench for “Philomena”.
The following actors will compete to take top honors In the male category: Chiwetel Ejiofor for “12 Years a Slave”, Christian Bale for “American Hustle” , Tom Hanks for “Captain Phillip”, Bruce Dern for “Nebraska” and Leonardo DiCaprio for “The Wolf of Wall Street”.
The awards ceremony will be held on February 16 at London’s Royal Opera House and hosted by Stephen Fry.
