It is the stars and producer of “The Lone Ranger” that are dishing out the dirt this time. Apparently the poor reviews from U.S. critics are to blame for the Western movie’s poor performance at the box office. Speaking to Movies.yahoo.com, Armie Hammer, Johnny Depp and Jerry Bruckheimer aired their opinions saying:
Johnny Depp kicks-off the rant:
“I think the reviews were written seven to eight months before we even released the film,”
“I think the reviews were probably written when they heard that Gore (Verbinski) and Jerry (Bruckheimer) and I were going to do ‘The Lone Ranger’. They had expectations that it must be a blockbuster. I didn’t have any expectations of that. I never do.”
Hamme’s turn:
“While we were making it we kind of knew that people were gunning for it. I think it was the popular thing when the movie hit rocky terrain to jump on the bandwagon to try and bash it. They tried to do the same thing with ‘World War Z’. It didn’t work, the movie was successful. Instead they decided to slit the jugular of our movie.”
Producer Bruckheimer chimes in:
“I think they were reviewing the budget, not reviewing the movie,” he says. “It’s unfortunate because the movie is a terrific movie, it’s a great epic film. It has lots of humor. It’s one of those movies that whatever critics missed in it this time, they’ll review it in a few years and see that they made a mistake.”
Let’s have a look at the review scores:
The Tomatometer | Metascore |
28% – 195 Critics | 37/100 – 44 Critics |
61% – 82 227 Users | 6.5/10 – 315 Users |
The general moviegoer didn’t seem that impressed either.
The film cost $215 million to produce and has earned only $176 million worldwide so far. Disney revealed that the “Lone Ranger” failure could cost the studio up to $190 million in losses.

Much as I hate to agree with the critics…
Disney made a spectacular film, but trashed the characters. You can’t root for them. John Reid is a clueless doofus who doesn’t even become a Texas Ranger until the day of the ambush. And why turn Tonto into such a weirdo, always trying to feed that dead bird on his head? These are two iconic American characters, you don’t mess with them this way. I think it was disrespectful, and that in turn soured critics & moviegoers.
The well known Hollywood studios are unable todictate what the general publicwant or will get as they would during the past. Should you additionally distribution on the internet press web-sites, from rumor to whole movies. It really is a totally new society. Some of it great, some not.
DougK & Night Fox Entertainment Ryan Johnson: It is interesting if one needs to compare what the “online society” is thinking about things these days. The comment: “It really is a totally new society” is on point considering the online Sharknado success. Reviews are coming in and it is looking positive (for now). The TOMATOMETER is sitting at 90% for the Critics (Counted: 10 Fresh: 9 | Rotten: 1). 42% for 752 Users. It will not be fare to compare Lone Ranger with Sharknado for obvious reasons however, is Sharknado so much better in terms of overall experience and value for money? The User Vs. Critic ratings is another story?!
