Rockstars have a habit of tragically dying too soon. There are way too many very talented musicians that died before they gave the world everything they had to give. Perhaps it is the lifestyle; The Sex Drugs & Rock n Roll lifestyle. Perhaps it’s the fame.Some of the stories here are truly tragic. These people gave so much to us. They delivered music that made us lift them up, as idols… Here is a list of some of our most famous Metal/Rock starts that tragically died at a young age:

1. Kurt Cobain (Nirvana)

February 20, 1967 — April 5, 1994

Age: 27

On March 30, 1994 Kurt Cobain arrived at a detox center in L.A., inspired by the urging of his family and friends. However, the very next day he jumped the fence and returned to Seattle. Less than two weeks later he would be found dead of a shotgun wound to the head. A suicide note was found by his body.

2. Jimi Hendrix

November 27, 1942 — September 18, 1970

Age: 27

There is some mystery around Jimi Hendrix’s death in London. He was found dead by his girlfriend when she awoke, and the official reports show that he drown in his own vomit consisting mostly of red wine. It is also said that he had taken nine of his girlfriend’s prescription sleeping pills, which may have led to his inability to awaken and save himself.

3. Lynyrd Skynyrd

We all know the famous track “Sweet home Alabama” by Lynyrd Skynard. Sadly Ronnie Van Zant (29), Steve Gaines (28)  and Cassie Gaines (29) died in a tragic airplane accident on October 20, 1977.

4. Randy Rhodes (Ozzy Osbourne)

December 6, 1956 — March 19, 1982

Age: 25

Ozzy Osbourne’s legendary and extremely talented guitarist was also taken from us in a plane crash, but because of pure stupidity. The pilot (Andrew Aycock) thought it would be a great idea to “buzz” the tour bus and wake the rest of the band. On the fourth attempt a wing clipped the bus and crashed killing all onboard the plane instantly. No drugs were found in Randy’s body, but the pilot tested positive for cocaine.

5. Jim Morrison (The Doors)

December 8, 1943 — July 3, 1971

Age: 27

The Legendary member of The Doors. Jim Morrison died in his Paris apartment. No autopsy was performed since under French law it’s not required if the medical examiner finds no evidence of foul play. The most widely held theory is that M

5. Dimebag Darrell (Pantera)

August 20, 1966 – December 8, 2004

Age: 38

Also known as Dimebag Darrell, We all remember this tragic day. A founding member of the groove metal band Pantera, as well as Damageplan, Darrell is considered to be one of the driving forces behind groove metal. Abbott was shot and killed while on stage during a Damageplan performance on December 8, 2004, at the Alrosa Villa in Columbus, Ohio. He ranked 92 in Rolling Stone magazine’s 100 Greatest Guitarists and #1 in the UK magazine Metal Hammer.

6. Freddie Mercury (Queen)

5 September 1946 – 24 November 1991

Age: 45

Probably the most well known rockstar to have died way too soon. Freddie Mercury was the lead vocalist and lyricist of the rock band Queen. He was known for his flamboyant stage persona and powerful vocals over a four-octave range. He died of bronchopneumonia brought on by AIDS on 24 November 1991, only one day after publicly acknowledging he had the disease. He is characterise as “one of rock’s greatest all-time entertainers”, who possessed “one of the greatest voices in all of music”.

7. John Bonham (Led Zeppelin)

31 May 1948 – 25 September 1980

Age: 32

Widely considered one of the world’s best drummers of all time, the Led Zeppelin band member died at 32 on Sept. 25, 1980. At the coroner’s inquest, it was revealed that in the 24 hours before he died, Bonham had consumed forty shots of vodka.

 

This is a truly depressing list, there where many more extremely talented musicians that we could have put on this list, but these guys had a a huge influence on us personally.
