A freak storm brings hundreds of vicious, man-eating sharks ashore in Los Angeles and a group of friends struggle to steer clear of their violent and destructive path

The cable channel picked an obvious subtitle for the upcoming TV movie that seems rather fitting considering the surprise cult following and attention the film received. The sequel will be called,  “Sharknado 2: The Second One”.

Thomas Vitale, executive vp of programming at Syfy said:

“Since Twitter played such a huge role in the success of the original movie, we wanted to use that platform to ask our fans to name ‘Sharknado 2’,” “This response is another reminder of how ‘Sharknado’ has become a pop culture phenomenon. We want to thank all our viewers for their wonderful contributions to keeping up the shark-mentum.”

Director of the first film Anthony C. Ferrante shared his thoughts about the sequel before the follow-up was announced:

“If there is, we have to up the ante… If we’re going to do this, we better make damn sure we can exceed the original. Maybe, we should do ‘Die Hard’ with sharks.”

The cast and plot have not been announced, The Asylum will still produce the follow-up.

“Sharknado 2” is scheduled for a July 2014 premiere.
