There’s so much going on with Josh Whedon’s Avengers 2 that it is difficult to keep track of what will happen, what is rumoured, and what is just plain crazy. Don’t expect the obvious, there where stories about the Hulk not coming back, and even Iron man not being in Avengers 2. Below is a list of all the casting and plot confirmations we have already received. We also take a look at some of the crazy rumours that’s still flying around.

Here’s what you need to know about Avengers 2.

1. Thanos

Thanos will take a back-seat in Avengers 2. Even though his removal from Avengers 2 has been confirmed, we are holding thumbs for another end-credit scene with him in it. Remember mid-end credit for Avengers included the scene with super-evil-villain Thanos. Whedon answered a question about Thanos in a recent interview:

“Well, Thanos is more powerful. He is so powerful, he is not someone you can just trot out and punch him. Like he did in the comics, you want him to be threading through the universe and to save the big finale for the big finale. He is definitely a part of what I’ve got going on. The thing about the Avengers is that they are very powerful, but they’re not very stable. So, there will definitely be some people that will shake them up in the next installment.”

But, with the introduction of Ultron, it is believed that Thanos may be kept for Avengers 3, seeing as he is so powerful. But we see no reason why Thanos cannot be tackled in the end finale scene of Avengers 2.

2. Ultron is the main Villain & Title

Ultron

Ultron

As mentioned above, this was announced by Joss Whedon with this awesome announcement trailer at this years Comic Con. The title became known as Avengers: Age of Ultron and Ultron will also be the main Villain.

Also see: Everything you need to know about Ultron, his history, powers and abilities. He is considered as one of the most powerful villains ever, and seeing him face-off against our beloved Avengers will be spectacular!

3. Avengers 2 will première 1 May 2015.

Still a long time to go, but we will get to see:

4. Robert Downey Jr. will be in The Avengers: Age of Ultron

With his contract issues speculating a possible new actor cast as Tony Stark, many sleepless nights may have been caused as the geek community waited anxiously to see if Downey Jr. will reprise his role as Iron Man. The idea of someone else filling the position as Iron Man just doesn’t sit well, Robert Downey Jr. has forever cemented the character in his portrayal of the man in the iron suit. Unfortunately the day will come when he will have to pass on the armoured suit; however we will have the privilege of enjoying his company for another 2 sequels. Marvel Studios confirmed that Robert Downey Jr. will return as Iron Man for The Avengers 2 and 3.

5. Mark Ruffalo will be back in Avengers 2.

Rumours started spreading that The Hulk will not be seen, and that the next time we will see Hulk “SMASH!” will be in his own movie.

6. No Black Panther

Morris Chestnut will NOT be seen as The Black Panther in Avengers 2. This rumour was squashed by the Actor himself.

7. The Guardians of the Galaxy

We expect to see some link between the Avengers and The Guardians of the Galaxy.  Based on the appearance of Thanos, it makes only sense that Guardians of the Galaxy gets involved. After all, Drax the Destroyer was literally made to kill Thanos, and Adam Warlock has a storied history with Thanos as well.

 8. War Machine will return

Don Cheadle will suit up again as War Machine. Cheadle will return as Col. James  Rhodes and we can expect “Rhodey” to play a key role in the conflict with Ultron that is the main focus of the sequel. It is virtually impossible to predict any outcomes and it seems likely that big changes are coming down the line to setup the final encounter with Thanos (whenever he decides to take on the Avengers). We can only assume that there are more things at play in the background to prepare for the future Marvel movie madness, considering the future of Iron Man (and the inclusion of War Machine) and the other characters involved to setup “Age of Ultron”.

9. Thomas Kretschmann will play Baron Wolfgang von Strucker

Ultron and Baron Wolfgang Von Strucker

Ultron is still the main villain of the movie, but Kretschmann will now also be giving the team of Avengers a bit of a headache. In the comics, von Strucker was one of the heads of HYDRA, the Nazi-esque group that consistently gave Captain America and S.H.I.E.L.D. such a hard time. This opens the door wide open for another link with Captain America and the possible return of Red Skull?

10. Ant-Man will not be in Avengers 2

Hank Pym will not be in The Avengers: Age of Ultron, but in his own movie Ant-Man. So, the creator of Ultron is ruled out of The Avengers and Ultron is possibly ruled out of the Ant-Man movie. I suppose we can ask what of Janet Van Dyne, his love interest? Given that director Edgar Wright has described Ant-Man as a film about a “badass secret agent” in the past, we can easily assume the films main character will be Scott Lang, the reformed criminal who inherits the Ant-Man headgear and identity?

11. Rumour: Simon McBurney to play Jarvis

Additional rumours are making the rounds this week suggesting that Simon McBurney might join the cast ensemble of “The Avengers: Age of Ultron”. Bleeding Cool’s sources report that English actor Simon McBurney is in line to take on the role as  J.A.R.V.I.S., “Not a computer voice Jarvis, mind you, but an actual Butler called Jarvis,” the site added.  Edwin Jarvis is an actual butler to Tony Stark In the comic books, the Intelligent System J.A.R.V.I.S. in the movies was introduced as Iron Man’s artificial intelligence voiced by Paul Bettany. Bleeding Cool is unable to confirm if McBurney will join the cast ensemble.

12. Vision, Loki and Thanos Will Not Be in ‘Avengers 2′

The Vision betrayed his programming and helped The Avengers to defeat the mighty Ultron, his creator

Whedon himself confirmed this saying ““We’re not going to see (Henry ‘Hank’) Pym and all the accoutrements. Ultron is more central to the Avengers as they are. But we will explore the idea of lineage, because he was created by us and we’ve got to own that.”

Loki was ruled out last June, confirmed by Entertainment Weekly, Tom Hiddleston  broke the news in an interview: “(Loki’s) not in it. Here’s the thing: I don’t think there’s anything else Loki could contribute to The Avengers, narratively,” Hiddleston said. “Joss gave me so many wonderful things to do in that first film that we’d only be trying to repeat ourselves, and probably less well in the second one.”

13. Quicksilver will be in The Avengers 2

Aaron Johnson

Aaron Johnson

“Kick-Ass” actor Aaron Johnson has long been rumored being in talks to join the cast. He is now officially on-board to depict Quicksilver, the son of Magneto. Josh Whedon cast Aaron Johnson as Quicksilver for “Avengers: Age of Ultron” but he has larger plans for the character, though, and wants to use him for more than just one action sequence.

You may have noticed that there are two different actors playing Quicksilver in the upcoming “X-Men: Days of Future Past” and “Avengers: Age of Ultron”. Here’s the explanation.

14. Elizabeth Olsen will play Scarlet Witch

Samuel L. Jackson confirmed the news, who will reprise his role as Nick Fury in the upcoming sequel of 2012′s “The Avengers”. Jackson says:

“I don’t think we begin shooting before March of next year,”. “I know we’re shooting in London, that James Spader is Ultron and going to be the bad guy, and that we added Ms. [Elizabeth] Olsen, but I don’t know what she’s doing, if she’s on the inside or the outside. I haven’t seen a script.”

Elizabeth recently spent time with director Joss Whedon and she is busy with research and preparation to understand the Marvel character she needs to portray. She told Moviefone:

“I hung out with Mr. Whedon recently. I’m really excited about this movie. I’m so excited about Scarlet Witch. I have had so much fun reading all about her and I am like learning new words that I had to look up on Wikipedia. I’m really enjoying it.”

“I just love Scarlet Witch. I love her. It’s so funny because I’m often talking about all these psychologically damaged people, but when you talk about Scarlet Witch … She is a messed up lady. She has got more sh-t to deal with than anybody else I know. I’m excited to figure out what’s appropriate to use for her, because there’s so much material from all of these decades, and we’re going to tell this one story. So to be able to choose what you’re going to bring into it from all of this abundance, it’s really fun.”

15. Rumour: Ms. Marvel

We’re still holding out for this one, Emily Blunt and Ruth Wilson are apparently both being eyed by Marvel for the role of Carol Danvers/Ms. Marvel in The Avengers 2. We acknowledge that this one is churning the rumor mill a bit too fast… but, you never know.
