I’ve been getting into the whole “Funko Pops” collecting game as of late. It is an addictive hobby. When you begin you start with the genre you like ofcourse, so I started with Lord of the Rings and Marvel. Little did I know that I was opening myself to an entire world of new merchandise collecting that is just teasing my collectors-senses to the extreme! I must have them all!

When it comes to the four-inch collectables, people fall into one of two categories: those who have amassed an epic collection of iconic characters and are obsessed with getting more… and those who shrug in bemusement over what the big deal is.

I also came to know that some of these Funko’s are extremely saught after and expensive! Some ranges, admittedly, aren’t particularly sought after, but others become incredibly rare and, as a result, proverbial gold dust. If you’re interested in what’s been vaulted (the process whereby Funko stop producing an individual figure), has become incredibly rare, then you’re in the right place because I’m about to run down the list of the top 10+ rarest and most expensive Funko Pop Vinyls on the planet.

Noteable Mentions: DC: Batgirl (Metallic) – $570

Another metallic release and another huge price tag, Batgirl is one of a number of rare DC Universe editions comic book fans are desperate to own. Only this time, instead of the typical limited edition Batman, it’s Batgirl leading the way and, get this, she’s not even from a Comic Con event or vaulted away. This Chase version (meaning a variant of standard releases) from an ever increasing, extensive DC line is ultra rare, so expect to fork out about a month’s rent for the privilege of ownership.

1. Genie (Metallic) – $770

The seller of this Pop is a total pro at eBay, and I know this because their description section is a well-oiled machine, covering everything from how they ship it to where its stored to the fact they are not responsible for shipping damages. Also, this Genie is metallic and from San Diego Comic-Con, but that’s not as important as the time and effort put into the description section.

2. He-Man and The Masters of the Universe: Skeletor (Black Hood) – $1000

Anyone growing up in the 1980s will have been into the camp cartoon heroics of He-Man and co. Both he and nemesis Skeletor are rare finds themselves. But it’s the San Diego Comic Con 2013 version of the villain that collectors are in search of. With only 480 produced, be sure not to confuse any of these vaulted or rare versions with the 2017 line of Masters of the Universe Funko.

3. Game of Thrones: Ned Stark (Headless) – $1,940

This is the point where the list passes the $1,000 threshold, so where better to start than the ultimate Thrones grail piece. Ned’s infamous demise at the hands of King Joffrey signified the horrors of having our favourite characters killed off, so what better tribute than a Pop with his head lobbed off? 1008 headless Neds were made and despite finding a handful of custom jobs for under £100 on eBay, the real deal (complete with SDCC 2013 window sticker) is currently valued at $1,940. Bankruptcy is coming.

4. Toy Story 3: Lotso (Flocked) – $1,960

Toy Story 3 was an amazing end to the (then) trilogy, with Lotso proving a worthy adversary to Woody and the gang. Despite the standard 2011 rare, vaulted Lotso now worth $140 , it’s the flocked version (a furry variation that replaces the standard plastic) that’s most hunted in the entire Toy Story line. Even the most hardened collector will seriously struggle to find one of these online unless it’s bought privately. But anyone who collects flocked Funkos can attest to how nicely they display (and feel).

5. Star Wars: Darth Maul (Holographic) – $2,060

Who would’ve thought that the funnily face-painted baddie from arguably the worst Star Wars movie would be so in-demand? Not only is this the holographic version (which looks pretty cool in terms of the holographic lines Funko produce), he’s also Glow in the Dark. Even though Maul first appeared in 1999’s The Phantom Menace, this didn’t see the light of day until SDCC 2012. With a value of $2,460 it’s a very tough one to find, especially in totally mint condition.

6. DC: Green Lantern (Glow in the Dark) – $2,330

No one was particularly thrilled – least of all actor Ryan Reynolds – when the 2011 film of the same name bombed at the box office; yet the Glow in the Dark edition from SDCC 2010 has an incredible estimated worth of $2,330. Aesthetically it’s an appealing piece. This Lantern’s price is largely down to its holy grail status after only 240 were made available. Now we see Ryan as Deadpool. Let’s see how they price?

7. Dragonball Z: Planet Arlia Vegeta – $2,340

As all Dragonball Z fans will know, there are plenty of difficult to find variants (notably the number of Goku available) to hunt down, such as a red-eyed Golden Frieza, but most can only dream of owning this sort of grail; after its exclusive NYCC and Toy Tokyo release in 2014. Beware of the damaged and custom ones that scatter eBay, though – the real deal last sold in mid-November for £1,566 and you won’t find the genuine article for less than £1,400 – if you manage to, then you’ve nabbed yourself a bargain.

8. Disney’s Dumbo (Clown) – $5200

The ultimate rarest of rare Funkos is the big-eared elephant from Disney’s 1941 animated classic and you’ll be pushed to ever find a single release that commands such a fee. After a mere 48 were made back in 2013, chances are you’ll never find this one (sorry to burst that bubble) for sale anywhere, and will have to make do with the normal release. The only place you can buy this is on US eBay for a staggering $6,700 Incredibly, this was available on release for just £9.99. How times have changed…

9. Freddy Funko As Jamie Lannister – $14,500

The King-slayer. This Funko is ultra-rare, only 12 of them made. It’s the mascot of Funko as one of the characters from Game of Thrones.

10. Stan Lee – $60,000/$200,000

The legend, Stan Lee. This is the most expensive item I found in my search for pricey Pops. It’s two metallic Stan Lee Pops signed by the Marvel legend himself. The pair are priced at $200k. According to the seller, only 10 of these exist in the entire world–10 of the gold and 10 of the silver. I’m not gonna tell you how to spend your money, but this is a bit silly.

That is it folks. Don’t think this is the definitive list though, these change rather quickly. More lists can be found here, and here.
