It is official geeks, Warner Bros. is looking for a black Green Lantern for the upcoming film reboot set for 2020. The exciting news was made available via ‘Meet the Movie Press’ last week. The studio is branching out to the animated “Justice League” and “Justice League Unlimited” series which features John Stewart. In the comics, John Stewart debuted in the early 1970s as the backup Green Lantern for Hal Jordan and Guy Gardner. He is an architect and ex-Marine who has a much more rigid personality and worldview than the cocksure and, at times, arrogant Hal Jordan.

Warner Bros Says The Next Green Lantern Will Be Black

This is a very interesting turn of events and in my humbled opinion a very good move considering the awful big screen introduction to one of DC’s most beloved comic book characters. Ryan Reynolds portrayed Hal Jordan in 2011’s “Green Lantern” which failed to impress comic book geeks and critics alike. It’s still unknown who will play the new Green Lantern but nothing stops us from spinning out a couple of names for the coveted role, we will post some suggestions soon! Chris Pine was considered to play the Green Lantern courtesy of Umberto “El Mayimbe” Gonzalez of Latino-Review but nothing came of it.

The internet lit up like a Christmas tree when The Rock teased us with a possible role as Green Lantern in Batman vs. Superman. We also saw multiple reports suggesting that Denzel Washington might take on the role as the Green Lantern. For now we will have to sit back and see how the cards will unfold, there are still 6 years left before the official release date. The old Hollywood rumor machine will keep us entertained in the meantime. Any geeks out there excited for the new Green Lantern?
