Yesterday we saw the first photos from the new Poltergeist film that is being produced by Sam Raimi and directed by Gil Kenan. Today we have the creepy full length trailer that made us feel more at ease with this reboot. Prior to the trailer a teaser was released (Hollywood.. stop releasing a trailer for a trailer!). The teaser showed a scene in the film that takes a page from the original 1982 film (see below). The full trailer released one day later gives us a better sense of how scary and insane this movie is going to be. It pretty much looks like a remake of the original film, and most remakes we see should never have seen the light of day, but Poltergeist seems like its going to be an awesome horror flick that brings on the fear. Sam Raimi and Gil Kenan seem to have shown that they aren’t going to let fans of the original down.

We are huge fans of the original film and the talented individuals who are involved with developing this new movie. When we see footage like this, we’re sold. Get ready for some solid scares! Here’s the teaser, and the full trailer below:

This is what director Kenan told USAToday about the movie::

“Whenever someone approaches material that’s so beloved, there’s a reflexive reaction to be worried. It’s a responsibility we take very seriously. We’re working to make a Poltergeist film that lives up to the original’s legacy. Unlike the traditional horror film, I wanted to put together a cast to give weight and reality to these characters. It’s the way to anchor the family. It’s such an emotional story at the core. Parents fighting to get their child back from the beyond.”

Raimi also spoke about the inspiration behind the movie, and how it has been updated to fit the world that we now live in:

“The original film commented on how we’ve let television get out of control, babysitting our kids. It’s only gotten worse with the handheld portable devices. Screens are everywhere. The family finds themselves in a paranormal world of hurt, and it gets so bad that they bring in a respected supernatural researcher and clairvoyant payed by Jared Harris for help.”

“The thing that keeps them a family is what they have to draw on, to stay sane, and also to win Madison back. The film is super-scary. And it’s scary on its own terms. I am excited to finally be able to share that with the world.”

Raimi and Kenan reimagined the classic tale about a family whose suburban home is invaded by angry evil spirits. When the terrifying apparitions escalate their attacks and take the youngest daughter, the family must come together to rescue her. The movie stars Sam Rockwell, Rosemarie DeWitt, and Jared Harris. It’s set to haunt theaters on July 24th.
