It’s been over a year since the fifth movie to finalize the very successful slasher film franchise “Scream” was announced. Furthermore, fans of the horror franchise were also teased with the possibility of a TV adaption based on the multi-million earning horror flicks. MTV already lined up Wes Craven to helm the pilot with Dan Dworkin and Jay Beattie (“Criminal Minds”) on board to write the script, but nothing came of it. Breaking news this week confirms that MTV has finally ordered 10-episodes for an October 2015 premiere according to a recent report by The Hollywood Reporter.
MTV made the announcement via Twitter with a cryptic message to its followers with a simple phone number. When the number (310-461-4299) is dialled, a male voice inquires before announcing the show’s official premiere:
“Do you like scary TV?”

Entertainment Weekly says we can expect the following from the small screen adaptation (plus character descriptions!):
“The high school-set series will follow a slew of not-yet-slain students: shy popular girl Emma (Willa Fitzgerald), artsy loner Audrey (Bex Taylor-Klaus), computer geek Noah (John Karna), all-American athlete Will (Connor Weil), ferocious socialite Brooke (Carlson Young), and mysterious new kid Kieran (Amadeus Serafini). The show also stars Joel Gretsch as Sheriff Clark Hudson (Kieran’s father) and Tracy Middendorf as Maggie.”
Horror geeks will be familiar with Craven’s four films which became one of the most iconic slasher film franchises in movie history. Harvey and Bob Weinstein will executive produce the series along with Craven. Original movie scribe Kevin Williamson, who wrote three of the four “Scream” films, is not involved in the TV project.
There are so many reasons to not be excited about a “Scream” revival, but with a crack shot production team and MTV’s recent success with “Teen Wolf”…… Count us in!
