Wentworth Miller has officially joined the cast ensemble of ‘The Flash’ as Captain Cold. The announcement was made at the TCA Panel in California, executive producer Greg Berlanti teases, “We’ll be seeing his origin and the origin of the Rogues”. Captain Cold is the leader of the rogues who uses miniature stolen cyclotrons to freeze objects. The “Cold-Guns” can create ice slicks, shatter metal or entomb victims in suspended animation in blocks of ice. The news comes short on the heels of the announcement that the cousin of “Arrow” star Stephen Amell has officially been cast in the “Arrow” spin-off. Robbie Amell will bring the heat as Ronnie Raymond, or better known as half of the Firestorm team.

For those of you not in the know, here is a description for Captain Cold, courtesy of comicvine.com:

“Leonard Snart is a blue collar criminal who has dubbed himself Captain Cold. He is an honorable villain in the fact that he has a strong moral code that he and his team mates must follow. Captain Cold is the leader of the group of villains known as ‘The Rogues’.”

Miller has been rather quiet since wrapping up his starring gig in “Prison Break” back in 2009. He was only available for small scenes on “Law & Order”, “House M.D.” and he played a prisoner in “Resident Evil: Afterlife”.

“The Flash” will branch off the “Arrow” universe story arch and will be filmed as a traditional stand-alone pilot. CW initially planned a backdoor pilot but Barry Allen’s “The Flash” will receive his own grand opening! “Arrow” co-creators Greg Berlanti, Andrew Kreisberg and series scribe Geoff Johns will pen the pilot. “Arrow” helmer David Nutter will serve as director. Grant Gustin takes on the titular role, he is supported by Rick Cosnett, Danielle Panabaker, Candice Patton and Carlos Valdes. John Wesley Shipp, who played Barry Allen on CBS’s The Flash series in the 90s, is set to recur as the title character’s father. The spin-off is set to premiere on Tuesday, October 7 at 8 P.M. on The CW.

Lots of cool things are in store for Flash fans, DC’s Entertainments’ Chief Creative Officer Geoff Johns says:

“Everything we put in there, we put for a reason,” “We’ve dropped in so many things and there’s a reason that Cisco Ramon (Carlos Valdes) is a character and Caitlin Snow (Danielle Panabaker). is a character, they’re all characters from the lore and we don’t just do that casually. We do that with purpose.”
