Recent reports suggest that “The Fault in Our Stars” director Josh Boone is in talks to take over the helming duties for Warner Bros.’ adaptation of Stephen King’s novel “The Stand”. The last time we checked in on the status of “The Stand’s” production delays, the studio was apparently eyeing Paul Greengrass to serve behind the lens but that obviously didn’t pan out. The search for a new director started again after Scott Cooper took over the helming duties from Ben Affleck who signed a deal to star as Batman in the upcoming “Man of Steel” sequel. Cooper also made a swift exit after the announcement that he will be joining “The Stand”, he had commitments with Ridley Scott and Leonardo DiCaprio to wrap-up “Out of the Furnace” starring Christian Bale.
The book is dedicated to Stephen King’s wife, Tabitha: “For Tabby: This dark chest of wonders.”
Originally published in 1978 (and re-released in 1990), “The Stand” tells the story of a post-apocalyptic world resulting from a virus which wiped out most of Earth’s population. The main focus is on a single group of survivors and their good vs. evil battle against Randall Flagg, a demonic figure who wreaks havoc (the character also appears in various other King books.
