Luca Iaconi-Stewart

This is simply spectacular. Luca Iaconi-Stewart has been working on this 1:60-scale Boeing jet-liner for five years, and the result is what you see in these images. This may be the best paper modelled airplane we’ve ever seen. The time and energy required to not only design this model but craft it – from the cabin furnishings to the lavatories to the landing gear to the overhead bins to the economy, first-class and cockpit seating – with hand and tweezer, is enough to make your palms sweat.

The Boeing 777 Model Paper Airplane is a replica of the Air India Boeing 777-300ER. Luca has been working on this 1:60-scale jetliner for five years. The level of detail on this thing is astounding. The airplane was completely made from manila envelopes.

Luca  spent an entire summer just to the seats (20 minutes for an economy seat, four to six hours for business class, and eight hours for first class). Tweezers helped. He designed the engines in about a month and assembled them in four. The tail he rebuilt three times. When his classes at Vassar took up too much time—he actually stopped work on the 777 for two years because of college—Iaconi-Stewart dropped out. “I’m fortunate to have parents willing to give me a fair amount of latitude,” he says. They’re going to have to give a little more: When this project is finished, probably early this year, he might start building an even bigger model.
