Our favorite zombie hunter, Norman Reedus, is showing interest to take on the role as James in the remake of “The Crow” according to a recent report by Schmoesknow.com. We have no details indicating who James is however GS will keep you in the loop. Welshman Luke Evans is reportedly earmarked to portray Eric Draven/The Crow. The female lead role in the meantime is still vacant with rumors suggesting that the “Twilight  “star Kristen Stewart was up for consideration, however the rumors have been laid to rest by the producers.

The original 1994 film was remarkable, featuring Brandon Lee in his final film appearance. Some still argue that “The Crow” only reached cult status due to the controversial circumstances leading to Lee’s death. He tragically died on set due to a gunshot wound after an accidental shooting. Remaking “The Crow” will be frowned upon by most fans of the cult classic hit. The review aggregate website Rotten Tomatoes gave the original 1994 film 82% saying:

“Filled with style and dark, lurid energy, The Crow is an action-packed visual feast that also has a soul in the performance of the late Brandon Lee.”

Remaking “The Crow” is probably the worst idea, because I am 99% sure that the memory of one of my favorite films will be tarnished. The difficulty is always trying to find the middle ground to revive something iconic and to bring something new to the table all in one sitting. It goes without saying that the production team and top cast selection being considered have all the capabilities of bringing to life one of the most memorable comic book films ever made. Some films are impossible to reproduce (“the Crow” included) due to the chemistry, artistic expression and in the case of Brandon Lee’s “The Crow”, true tragedy that edged the film into the history books.

For those of you who have not seen the film, check out the synopsis courtesy of Rotten Tomatoes:

“Based on the graphic novel by James O’Barr, this fantasy follows Eric Draven (Brandon Lee), a rock musician who is murdered along with his fiancée, Shelly (Sofia Shinas), by a group of marauding thugs who terrorize the decaying city in which they live. One year to the day after his death (which happens to be Devil’s Night), a mystical crow appears at Eric’s grave; Eric rises from the dead and, with the bird as his guide, goes on a mission to avenge himself against Top Dollar (Michael Wincott), the leader of the gang who killed him. Star Brandon Lee was killed while filming a scene in which he was shot with a shell from an improperly cleaned gun that was supposed to be loaded with blanks. Like his father, martial arts superstar Bruce Lee, Brandon was fated to enjoy his greatest popular success after his premature death. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi”
