Hollywoodreporter.com covered a story last month revealing that A&E Network has picked up the rights to develop a series based on the hit TV show “The Returned” (“Les Revenants”). The French series was created by Fabrice Gobert based on the feature film “Les Revenants” directed by Robin Campillo. The series tells the story of several people living in a small mountain town. Presumed dead for a long time, they suddenly reappear and haven’t aged. Totally unaware of their own fatality, strange phenomena and gruesome murders begin to occur.

General Manager and Executive Vice President of A&E Network says:

” ‘The Returned’ takes an incredibly unique approach, filled with suspense and twists and turns, to the subject of the living dead,”

“Part mystery, part thriller; ‘The Returned’ is a perfect complement to A&E’s unique brand of scripted storytelling.”

A&E Network’s successful Bates Motel” co-showrunner Carlton Cuse is in talks to adapt the drama. A&E Studios and FremantleMedia North America will produce the chilling show. The French series debuted last fall on Canal Plus and will return for a second season in 2014. Sundance Channel acquired the 8-episode first season to air over Halloween. The decision to pursue the series was partly based on rave reviews and ratings after airing on Canal+ and the U.K.’s Channel 4.
