Jerry Bruckheimer’s big budget flop “The Lone Ranger” has not stopped him from pursuing big screen blockbusters just yet. The reason why “The Lone Ranger” didn’t succeed seems controversial according to the production team and main cast. The film was crushed by the critics and many feel that the film never stood a chance because of big budget expectations.

The legendary film and television producer is currently busy with “Pirates of the Caribbean 5 – Dead Men Tell No Tales” which recently received its official title from a famous line from a Disneyland attraction. In addition to his latest effort, there as some rumors suggesting that Bruckheimer is assisting to revive three very successful iconic franchises.

1. Beverly Hills Cop IV

Eddy Murphy is expected to reprise his role as Det. Axel Foley

Bruckheimer produced the first two installments of  ”Beverly Hills Cop” and he might be back for the fourth one.  Variety.com confirms that Jerry Bruckheimer is in talks to come back on as a producer of “Beverly Hills Cop 4″. Funny man Eddie Murphy will be expected to reprise his role as Detective Axel Foley if the project receives the green light. Josh Applebaum and Andre Nemec (scribes for “Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol”) are on-board to pen the script.

Quick look a the figures:

Films Worldwide gross
Beverly Hills Cop $316,3
Beverly Hills Cop II $299,9
Beverly Hills Cop III $119,2

Bruckheimer and Don Simpson contributed to the ”Beverly Hills Cop” franchise success. The third installment was considered a failure, financially and according to critics. The film was mainly criticized for the exclusion of key characters that didn’t reprise their roles and the absence of Bruckheimer and Simpson.

The success of the first two installments should be reason enough for Bruckheimer to return to the franchise. It would be great to finish off the series on a high note.

2. Bad Boys 3

Bad Boys 2 was a huge success grossing over $273,3M worldwide, almost twice the gross of the original film

It is rumored that Jerry Bruckheimer is helping to develop the script for “Bad Boys 3″ according to recent report by  Variety.com.

Last year, Huffingtonpost.com revealed that while will Smith was promoting “Men In Black 3”,  he and co-star Martin Lawrence are on board for a sequel.

He said:

“I talked to Martin about that a couple of weeks ago,” he said. “Martin is into it and we got a couple of screenplays and the story’s gotta be right.”

In 2010 Comingsoon.net reported that Bruckheimer gave the confirmation of the third Bad Boys movie saying:

“It’s a wish and a hope and a dream. We’ve been working on a screenplay, which is excellent. It’s an idea Will [Smith] gave us, so hopefully, it will come to fruition, we would love it to.”

In another report by Slashfilm.com back in 2009, Bruckheimer said in an interview that:

“When we had about two weeks of shooting left to go on Bad Boys II, Will and Martin were having such a good time, they phoned (Columbia studio boss) Amy Pascal and said, ‘We want to sign up for another one.’ So hopefully we’ll get them all back together again.”

There are so many breadcrumbs to follow here however nothing has been confirmed.

3. Top Gun 2

Fans of the cult classic fighter pilot movie Top Gun have been holding their breath for nearly 30 years now. Bruckheimer revealed in a couple of interviews back in June, that production forTop Gun 2” will move forward.

Producer Jerry Bruckheimer told IndieWire back in June:

“We’re at a point right now where everybody wants to make it. For a while it was Tom was excited about it but the studio didn’t want to commit or the studio was excited and Tom didn’t want to do it. And that’s been going on for 30 years.”— “And now we’re at a point where the studio is excited and Tom is excited. A lot of that has to do with Tony (Scott’s) vision. He had a really exciting vision and he got everybody excited about it. That enthusiasm (has) carried forward.”

Bruckheimer says “Top Gun 2” is still a Go as cited by Insidemovies.ew.com:

“We still want to do it with Tom, and Paramount are still interested in making it,”

“What Tom tells me is that no matter where he goes in the world, people refer to him as Maverick. It’s something he is excited about, so as long as he keeps his enthusiasm hopefully we’ll get it made.”

“Top Gun 2” will be a major blockbuster hit with Bruckheimer attached to the project, especially if Tom Cruise is back to reprise his role as United States Naval Aviator Lieutenant Pete “Maverick” Mitchell.
