Horror films are scaring up a storm at the box-office this year, setting impressive records along the way. “Insidious Chapter 2” proves to be a must see as it sets records in its first week since the release of the anticipated Horror film. Critics over at Rottentomatoes.com are not too impressed with the sequel; however moviegoers have mixed to favorable responses.

The sequel opened to $20.1M on Friday the 13th (including $1.5M in Thursday’s late shows and Friday’s midnights) and added $13.4M on Saturday, to eventually sit at the No. 1 spot on North American box office with an impressive $41 million against a mere budget of $5 million. The first movie only debuted to $13.3 million in April 2011.

“Insidious Chapter 2” scores the second-biggest horror opening of 2013, nearly matching the $41.9 million debut of “The Conjuring” released last July. The sequel stars Patrick Wilson, Rose Byrne, Lin Shaye, Ty Simpkins, Barbara Hershey, Danielle Bisutti, Michael James Grise and Lindsay Seim.
