Spider man’s web can achieve what seems the impossible. Fourth-year physics students at the University of Leicester, tested and measured values on the stiffness and strength of real spider’s webbing. James Forster, Mark Bryan and Alex Stone are currently part of the physics degree program at the University.

Taken from the Scene in Spider man, given a fully loaded train carrying nearly 1,000 passengers racing at top speed, a spider web would have to stand up to 300,000 Newtons of force. This enormous figure allowed them to calculate the toughness of the web at 500 megajoules per cubic meter.

This toughness measured is in line with the web from a Darwin’s Bark Spider known for its strong webbing.
